DPSA Launches 2025–2030 Strategic Plan
Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) has unveiled its new five-year Strategic Plan (2025–2030), setting out a bold vision to strengthen the organisation and deepen its impact. DPSA is committed to strengthening our role as South Africa’s leading Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPD).
The Strat plan focuses on three priorities: reclaim, stabilise, and ensure
Policy & Advocacy Focus Areas: Our work will drive change in areas that matter most:
- Inclusive formal and informal employment.
- Accessibility in the ICT sector.
- Inclusive education and skills development.
- Universal design in infrastructure and services.
- Disability-inclusive community development, including OPD-led CBR (Community-Based Rehabilitation).
Strengthen governance and sustainability: We are consolidating our foundation to ensure long-term survival and impact. Key actions include:
- Strengthening administrative and financial systems.
- Revamping our membership system to better serve individuals and organisations.
- Establishing a Leadership Academy to develop skilled, informed, and empowered disability rights leaders.
DPSA as the Leading Agent for Change: We are scaling up our influence to transform society through advocacy and representation. This involves:
- Coordinated national, provincial, and local advocacy campaigns, aligned with key national dates and disability priorities.
- A revamped advocacy platform: stronger media presence, newsletters, forums with journalists, parliamentarians, and business leaders.
- Hosting high-profile events that spotlight disability rights and inclusion.
- Expanding strategic deployments of activists and leaders into key decision-making spaces.
- Establishing an umbrella forum for all OPDs in South Africa, promoting unity and shared action.
To deliver on this Implementation & Oversight plan, DPSA will operate through specialised commissions, including:
- Communications & Outreach Commission
- Advocacy & Policy Commission
- Financial Sustainability Commission
- Membership & Capacity Building Commission
- Research & Knowledge Management Commission
These commissions will include NEC members of DPSA, DYSA, and DWSA, as well as experts and veterans from the disability rights movement. This plan positions DPSA as the leading voice for disability rights in South Africa, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not just represented, but central to building an inclusive society.
